Summergrass 2008 once again presents our Summergrass Kids Camp during the festival! The camp is open to all kids between 6 and 16, at any level of experience. Each day features 3 hours of music fun, including instrument classes, performance groups, an extended topics class, and a performance on the festival stage on Sunday.  It’s a fun way to hone your musical chops, meet friends, and have a musical blast!  Lead instructors for this year’s camp are Chris Stuart & Backcountry, one of the west coast’s most sought-after  bands for their stellar musicianship, vocals, and songwriting talent. And CS & BC have taught music camps worldwide. Chris Stuart, Janet Beazley, Eric Uglum, Austin Ward, and Christian Ward are no strangers to Summergrass, having performed in past years at the festival.  In 2004, Austin and Christian attended Kids Camp that first year and now we’re delighted to have them as part of the 2008 Kids Camp faculty! Click on the link below for the 2008 Kids' Camp flyer and registration form. Tuition is $60 and registration is required for the camp; scholarships are available for kids who are in need.

This just in, hot off the presses. Orion Johanning, of Temecula, Ca. won the Topanga banjo contest in the intermediate division beating out all other contestants. Johanning has attended Kids Camp and other banjo workshops at the Summergrass Bluegrass Festival for the past several years. He has performed on the Summergrass Main stage with other Summergrass youth attendees as part of the Kids Camp experience and it's been great to watch his progress. He has also attended many campouts where he has jammed with many other campers.

He is pictured here with a winners certificate and new instruction book. It appears that his learning and much dedicated practice time has paid off for him. Congratulations Orion! Photo courtesy of Jeff Johanning.
